A man in his forties died in his cell in Litla-Hraun, Iceland’s maximum security prison, around 8 pm last night. The man experienced difficulties with breathing and requested assistance from the prison guards.
They called for an ambulance and physicians but attempts to resuscitate the man proved unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, visir.is reports.
The man had only been in his cell for 24 hours when he passed away. The cause of death is unclear but an autopsy is expected to take place.
