The investigation is in the jurisdiction of the Akranes police department. It is in the early stages and questioning of witnesses has yet to be completed, reports.

At first the suspect avoided police and may have obstructed justice by removing evidence or trying to influence witnesses.

According to Stöð 2*, the girl told her peers about the abuse, who informed their parents. The parents contacted school authorities who notified child protection authorities.
