A man in his late eighties was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday for sexual violations against his granddaughter. The violations took place between 1994 and 2005 when the girl was four to 15-years-old.
The man has denied his guilt, pointing out that he had become impotent because of a disease before he turned 60. The jury said the man’s testimony is not supported by hospital records, Morgunbladid reports.
The jury said many witnesses support the girl’s testimony. Her mother said her daughter had avoided her grandfather after her grandmother died and her father said he had witnessed the man displaying indecent behavior towards another grandchild in his summer house many years ago. The girl’s friends also confirmed that she had told them about the abuse.
The victim is entitled to ISK 1.5 million (USD 17,000, EUR 12,000) in compensation and ISK 1.2 million (USD 13,000, EUR 9,000) in legal costs.
