Man Convicted of Child Abuse, Jailed for 6.5 Years

Reykjanes District Court sentenced a man born in 1968 to six and a half years in prison this week for repeated sexual abuse of a young boy over the span of many years. The man used to have relations to the boy’s family.

He is also to pay the victim ISK 3 million (USD 26,000, EUR 19,000) in damages and cover two thirds of the legal costs, Morgunbladid reports.

The man confessed to parts of the charges and said the violations had taken place over the span of four years, since the boy was ten. The boy himself said they had started when he was seven.

Even though the jury found the victim’s account credible, the claims could not be adequately substantiated so the man was only convicted for the crimes to which he confessed, ruv.is reports.

The man has also been convicted of child abuse on earlier occasions. The verdict says that psychological treatment has not proven successful and that the man remains a threat to young boys.

He is thought to have demonstrated determined and organized intent of abuse and is considered to have a serious and fixed inclination towards abusing children.

His descriptions of the violations are described as terrifying. The verdict says the man has nothing to say for himself.

According to ruv.is, the man was also convicted for the possession of one film and almost 1,800 photographs showing the abuse of children which were found on his computer.
