Man Confesses to Murder in Southwest Iceland

Reykjanes District Court issued a charge on Friday against a man in his early thirties for manslaughter in the Reykjanesbaer municipality in southwest Iceland on May 8, 2010. The accused, who has been in custody since his arrest, has confessed to the murder.

The victim, a 53-year-old man, was found dead outside by Bjarnarvellir in Reykjanesbaer on the morning of May 8. He had suffered severe head trauma, Morgunbladid reports.

Suspicion was quickly directed towards the man who is now being charged for the murder. His and the victim’s paths had crossed while they were partying during the night, although they didn’t know each other previously.

They are believed to have gotten into a fight, which ended with the younger man attacking the other and causing mortal injuries to his head. They were both intoxicated.
