Major Drug Bust in Iceland

Three men are currently in custody because of an extensive drug case believed to be connected with crime circles in many different countries. The first man was arrested after a few kilos of hard drugs were discovered in an express postal delivery to Iceland.

The man, who is in his twenties, was arrested in May 22 and sentenced to custody until June 2, which was then extended to June 12, Fréttabladid reports.

Two other men, who are in their forties and fifties, were later arrested, suspected of having participated in the drug smuggling and related money laundering, and sentenced to custody until June 19. Both of them have previous arrests for drug violations.

A fourth man was also arrested but released after questioning. As for the three detainees, police are investigating whether they are connected with an international crime circle involved in drug smuggling and other serious crimes.

On Monday, police arrested five other individuals and undertook 11 home searches as part of their investigation of this case. It is part of a larger Europol investigation.
