One earthquake measured magnitude 3 on the Reykjanes Ridge at noon today.
According to Minney Sigurðardóttir, a natural hazard expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, this is a traditional activity in the area.
“We get earthquakes very often, three and larger ones out there on the Reykjanes Ridge. It was only last time in May that there was a big cluster and they come regularly, but these were just single earthquakes, no cluster,” says Minney in an interview with mbl.is.
She says it’s “very quiet in the ground” considering the good weather, “that’s when we usually see more earthquakes.”
