Magical Engagement Moment on Skólavörðustígur

By Iceland Review

The moment Michael Kent proposed to Fiona Newlands, they had no idea Jessica Bowe was about to press a button. Jessica captured a photo of the magical moment in the middle of Skólavörðustígur in downtown Reykjavík, Vísir reports. The setting looks festive and romantic, snow-covered ground and Christmas lights. “I intended to propose during a northern lights trip we took Saturday,” Michael confesses, “but it snowed so much that I didn’t think it was the right moment.”

Jessica was on her way home when Michael knelt down in the middle of Skólavörðustígur. She posted a note on Instagram, “I gave them a moment and then asked if they would like to have this picture as a memento. The man’s hands were trembling as he entered his email address on my phone, and I got some nice hugs of appreciation. Sometimes you’re just in the right place at the right time.”

The young couple became nervous waiting for the picture to arrive by email and put out a search on Facebook and Twitter, while Jessica, who had lost their email address, did the same on Instagram. The searches were successful and Michael and Fiona will return to Edinburgh tomorrow, their engagement now widely published.
