Love Week Relocates to Bifröst University

By Iceland Review

Love is in the air at Bifröst University in west Iceland where Love Week, a cultural festival, opened on Sunday. Love Week has been celebrated in Bolungarvík in the West Fjords for the past five years but has now been temporarily relocated.

The organizer of the Bolungarvík festival, Soffía Vagnsdóttir, is currently studying at Bifröst. “A lot of work that goes into planning a festival like this […]. When I’m not in the area it becomes all the more difficult so I decided to bring the Love Week to me, this year at least,” Vagnsdóttir told

Vagnsdóttir said the festival will return to Bolungarvík, even as early as next year. There are also plans to spread it out to all parts of the country in 2013, at the festival’s tenth anniversary.

Love Week was originally held as an answer to the decreasing population of Bolungarvík (pop. 1,000). Locals were encouraged to love one another in all senses of the word and couples whose love bore fruit nine months after the festival were rewarded.

During this year’s Love Week at Bifröst, people of all ages are expected to participate in the festival where optimism, love and joy rein. The university community at Bifröst welcomes visitors from all around the world hoping for a well-attended Love Week.
