Lots of Snow in Akureyri

If you‘re wondering where to go skiing these days, Akureyri, North Iceland, is definitely the place. The area received 30 cm (12 inches) of snowfall overnight, bringing the total snow depth to 77 cm (30 inches).

Traffic moves slowly there this morning, testing the residents’ patience. Still, the weather is very good: calm winds, light snow and a temperature of -2° Celsius (28° Fahrenheit). Follow the weather forecast on en.vedur.is.

All main roads in North Iceland are covered with snow, while many roads in the West Fjords are closed. Roads are icy in the east and southeast, but with icy spots in most of the south and west. For detailed information on road conditions, go to road.is.
