Lot owned by fishing company to be possibly used for private housing

A lot owned by the fishing company HB Grandi in Reykjavík may be used for constructing apartment complexes if the board of Associated Icelandic Ports (Faxaflóahafnir sf.) decides to relocate the fishing company.

The operations of HB Grandi may be moved to Akranes, west Iceland, which would mean the company would vacate the 8,500-square-meter near Reykjavík harbor. Associated Icelandic Ports have the authority to decide what the lot will be used for if HB Grandi relocates, Fréttabladid reports.

Jón Grétar Jónsson, the managing director of the real estate company Húsakaup, told Fréttabladid the lot could become one of the best locations for constructing seaside apartment complexes in the country.

HB Grandi employs about 120 people in Reykjavík. It is not certain how many jobs will be offered if the fishing company relocates to Akranes.
