After one woman was found dead yesterday, the search continues for the other.
It has now been revealed that the two lost women, who were last seen on Saturday evening, were friends who live in Iceland. One of the women is Icelandic and the other a foreign citizen. The alarm was raised on Tuesday when neither had returned to work.
The two women had been staying in a summerhouse in South Iceland and decided to go for a walk and a swim. Rescuers found the woman with foreign citizenship dead in Bleikársgljúfur canyon, 25 km from Hvolsvöllur. Authorities say she seems to have drowned.
The Icelandic woman has not yet been found, and search & rescue workers have been joined by divers, sniffer dogs and a helicopter.
Both women were in their thirties and Vísir.is reports that both women’s clothing has been found by a pool in the canyon.
Hvolsvöllur police say today’s search will be even bigger than yesterday’s, but that there is nothing to suggest the event was anything other than a tragic accident.
