The tourists had set up camp but were cold because of sleet and snowfall. They managed to call the 112 emergency hotline and report their approximate location, ruv.is reports.
Search and rescue members traveled by jeep and found their camping location by Fjallsendi, to the north of Trölladyngja and west of Askja, around midnight.
The tourists were unharmed but rather cold. The search and rescue members brought them to the closest inhabited area around 7:30 this morning.
