Around 100 search and rescue team members were called out between 6 and 7 pm yesterday evening to look for a hiker who had gotten lost in Móskardshnjúkar on the eastern part of Esja, the mountain overlooking Reykjavík.

The conditions were foggy and the visibility poor. The man contacted the rescue services himself and said he didn’t know where he was but the telephone connection remained clear the entire time, Morgunbladid reports.
The man was found shortly before 8 pm and had become rather exhausted. By that time a Coast Guard helicopter had arrived at the scene and brought the man to hospital.
A physician said the man was cold and weak but otherwise unharmed.
