The girl stated that her stepfather had had sexual intercourse with her two to three times per week while she was 11 to 14 years old. The man maintained his innocence and his stepdaughter accused him of lying, Fréttabladid reports.
The man’s sister testified that her brother had sexual tendencies towards children and the court considered the proof sufficient that he had abused his stepdaughter on a regular basis. However, the court lowered the compensation to the victim from ISK 3 to ISK 2 million (from USD 24,000 to 16,000, from EUR 17,000 to 11,000).
According to the testimony of the director of Barnahús, a shelter for children who have been sexually abused, run by the Government Agency for Child Protection, the victim will suffer the psychological consequences of the abuse for the remainder of her life.
