A small group of Lithuanians living in Iceland protested the invasion of the Russian military in Georgia by holding Georgian flags outside the Russian Embassy in Reykjavík yesterday.
“With this protest we want to express our full support and solidarity with all the inhabitants of Georgia,” spokesperson for the Association of Lithuanians in Iceland Inga Minelgaite told Fréttabladid. “Lithuanians were in a similar position two decades ago and therefore Georgians have our complete compassion.”
Minelgaite said many people had supported their protest. “People from different nationalities have contacted us and thanked us for our initiative. Our protest is silent, no screaming or disturbance; we are only showing our support in action.”
Russia agreed to a strategy yesterday aimed at ending the conflict in Georgia.
