Postal and newspaper distribution companies are increasingly looking outside of Iceland for employees reports the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV.
Pósthúsid and Íslandspóstur have both advertised and hired employees in the European Economic Area. Ten employees are due to arrive from Poland to work at Pósthúsid.
According to RÚV, 30 – 35 employees at Íslandspóstur are foreigners or of foreign descent. Árni Árnason, the marketing and PR director for Íslandspóstur, said that 10 foreigners joined the group this winter, people from various countries including Sweden, France, Italy, and Portugal. Íslandspóstur offers Icelandic classes for its employees and Árni said that the foreign hires have performed well.
Pósthúsid is also looking for employees outside of Iceland, said CEO Einar Thorsteinsson. He said that they have received many applications after advertising within the European Economic Area. Pósthúsið distributes the dailies DV and Fréttabladid. According to RÚV, there have been some gaps in the distribution of Fréttabladid because of lack of employees.
