Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Iceland is covered in snow these days. When residents in Reykjavík woke up this morning they had to dig their way out to their cars, sweep the ca 30 cm of snow from the top of their cars and finally shovel their way out to the street.

Some of those who were out early, before municipal workers got their first attempt at clearing the streets, got stuck and had to be helped by the rescue team. Some of the cars which got stuck are in the way of snow plows, making it even more difficult to keep the streets clear.

The first rescue squads were called out at 1 am, after many cars got stuck in the snow. Police say that close to 100 car owners needed help. Police in other parts of Iceland have similar stories according to mbl.is.

Domestic flights were delayed, but international flights were pretty much on schedule.
