Lennon’s 70th Birthday to be celebrated in Reykjavík

Next month a large number of foreign guests are expected to be present as Yoko Ono lights her Peace Column on what would have been John Lennon’s birthday, ruv.is reports.

To mark the occasion, Ono will perform with her band, Plastic Ono Band, which she and Lennon founded more than half a century ago.

This will be the fourth time that Ono lights the Videy Peace Column. As usual, the date for the lighting is the anniversary of the late John Lennon’s birthday, October 9th. This year, however, is special according to Svanhildur Konrádsdóttir, Reykjavík’s Director of Culture and Tourism, as Lennon would have turned seventy, had he lived.

Ono will be accompanied by the couple’s son Sean Lennon, who incidentally will turn thirty-five on October 9th. He will conduct Plastic Ono Band’s concert at Háskólabíó Theater. Ono founded the band with John Lennon in 1969, and revived it last year with her son.

In addition to the concert and the lighting of the Peace Column, the Lennon-Ono Grant for Peace will be awarded for the third time at Höfdi.

The international media is already showing great interest in the event.
