Chairman of the board of Kaupthing Bank Sigurdur Einarsson and Kaupthing CEO Hreidar Sigurdsson met with Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde in his ministry last night. The meeting began at 10 pm and lasted for one hour.
Einarsson told Morgunbladid that he has been abroad and had wanted to review the economic situation with the prime minister, something for which he has not had time until now.
Einarsson said they had certainly discussed matters concerning Glitnir Bank at the meeting but not Kaupthing’s potential participation in these matters.
“We were talking in general terms,” Einarsson said, adding that the acquisition was between the state and the Central Bank and that Kaupthing had nothing to do with it. He would not express his opinion on the nationalization of Glitnir.
