Law Students in Iceland Asked for Help

The number of people calling the members of Orator, the association of law students at the University of Iceland, has increased significantly since the crisis hit in the beginning of October 2008.

Callers have questions on the finance of households, seizure of properties, bankruptcy and bankruptcy proceedings, which weren’t especially common before the collapse, Morgunbladid reports.

The members of Orator have received calls at every hour of the day—also outside the advertised call-in hours—and some callers almost beg for legal assistance.

Gudrún Edda Gudmundsdóttir, one of the managers of Orator’s legal assistance program, said law students answer between eight and 30 questions during the call-in hours (on Thursday evenings between 7:30 pm to 10 pm) depending on their nature.

The hotline is (+354) 551-1012.
