Assistant coach Heimir Hallgrímsson will also continue working with the team, taking over from Lagerbäck after the European Championships to lead Iceland to the 2018 World Cup qualifications, visir.is reports. Head of the Football Association of Iceland Geir Þorsteinsson said both men have signed contracts for their continuation.
Lagerbäck took over as coach of the Icelandic team in the autumn of 2011.
Iceland recently made it to the 2014 World Cup play-offs but lost to Croatia 0-2 last Tuesday.
