Pupils at Giljaskóli elementary school in Akureyri celebrated this week’s snowfall in northeast Iceland by attempting to create the largest snowball in the town’s history.
As workers were busy ridding the roads in Akureyri of the 16 cm thick snow that fell this week and motorists bought studded tires for their cars, children embraced the new look of their playground.
“We are trying to break the Akureyri record,” a pupil at Giljaskóli told Morgunbladid, as he struggled to push a giant snowball around the playground with the help of his class mates.
It is not clear whether the record was broken or not, but the snowball was certainly big and the school children were still planning on making it bigger.
When the newspaper’s reporter left the area the snowball was the size of a tractor tire.
