Large demand for minke whale

Whale hunters are satisfied with the demand for minke whale meat this summer. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />

According to vísir.is, the whalers haven’t been able to go to sea in the last few days because of bad weather. They plan to go out before the weekend, even though the forecast is not good. There are now only 23 minke whales left of Iceland´s Marine Research Institute quota, and they plan to catch six more whales this weekend.

Boats working on behalf of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Iceland’s Marine Research Institute have caught 200 minke whales since so-called scientific hunting of whale was resumed in 2003. According to the minke whalers, sales have gone much better than expected this summer. Meat from all 37 minke whales caught has been sold and whalers are trying to catch more.
