Large Decrease in Number of Smokers in Iceland

The number of Icelanders who smoke daily has dropped from one in four ten years ago to one in ten, reports.

The ratio drops to eight percent when only those with tertiary education are considered while 23 percent of those who have only finished lower secondary school smoke.

The Nordic Council aims to make the Nordic countries smoke free by 2040.

Eighteen percent of Americans smoke, down from 42 percent half a century ago.
