Last weekend, the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police arrested six people in connection with a major cannabis production on Smiðjuvegur in Kópavogur, Fréttablaðið reports . Three of them will be detained through Friday. The production took place in an industrial building.
This is one of the most extensive cannabis productions ever discovered by the Icelandic police. Close to 600 cannabis plants were confiscated and nearly 10 kg of marijuana. The figures were confirmed by Runólfur Þórhallson, head of the narcotics division of the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police.
He pointed out that detaining the suspects through Friday indicated the severity of the case. Those detained have no prior drug-related record, and have seldom run into trouble with the police. Unidentified sources told Fréttablaðið the three detainees are a father and his sons.
