The Icelandic Broadcasting Service, RÚV, reports that the CEO, Tryggvi Felixsson, of Landvernd, a nature conservation organization, has called for caution in harnessing geothermal power. Geothermal power stations must not be constructed just because hydroelectric power stations are controversial.
Tryggvi said that geothermal power stations could have considerable environmental impact even if it is less than that of hydroelectric power stations. He also said that the geothermal hotspots in Iceland were an important part of the Icelandic environment and unique in Europe.
