Yoko Ono will present the awards at a ceremony at Harpa concert and conference center at 2 pm on October 9, ruv.is reports.

The other individuals to receive the award this year are Rachel Corrie, a peace activist who died in Gaza in 2003 trying to prevent the demolition of Palestinian homes; John Perkins, author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man; Christopher Hitchens, an author, humanist and noted critic of religion; and Russian punk band Pussy Riot, arrested for anti-government protest in Moscow.

In a press release from Visit Reykjavík, Lady Gaga is described as “one of the most important artists of our time” and is praised for using her art to improve communication in the world.

“She is recognized for her struggle and for how her album Born This Way has changed the way of thinking in the world and how it has made us deal with the future, which is already here,” the statement reads.

The award ceremony will be followed by the annual lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower on Viðey island at 8 pm.
