King of Shepherds

The sheep roundup season has begun. Iceland Review visited Lokastaðarétt pen in Fnjóskadalur valley, North Iceland, yesterday, where between four and five thousand sheep had been rounded up from the mountains around Flateyjardalur valley.

Due to bad weather on Saturday, some sheep were left behind in the mountains. “We have to make another attempt to find them,” stated ‘Mountain King’ Arnór Erlingsson, but his title (fjallkóngur) is the the Icelandic terminology for leader of the roundup. Aside from being royalty among shepherds, Arnór is a sheep farmer at Þverá in Dalsmynni and the owner of more than a thousand sheep in the pen.
