Killing of salmon forbidden

By Iceland Review

Hobby salmon fishers at Laxá river in Adaldalur, northeast Iceland, will have to release their entire catch back into the river next summer.

Orri Vigfússon, head of the Laxá Fishing Association, told Morgunbladid that these measures have been taken as a final stage of a plan to protect the salmon in the river.

In the last two years, fishermen have been encouraged to release all salmon that is caught in the part of the river that belongs to the Fishing Association, and obligated to release all two-year-old salmon.

Last summer 75 percent of the catch was released.
