Keflavík Becomes Iceland’s Basketball Champion

Keflavík became the Icelandic basketball champion for the ninth time with a 98-74 victory over Snaefell from Snaefellsnes peninsula in the Toyota sports hall in Keflavík, southwest Iceland, on Thursday.

This was Keflavík’s third game against Snaefell in the Iceland Express league this season, Fréttabladid reports.

Gunnar Einarsson of Keflavík was chosen the best player of the third game with Snaefell and the best player of the basketball finals. “It is an invaluable recognition that I have received. I have practiced hard, many times a day, and my wife has stood by me.”

For a while it looked like Reykjavík basketball team ÍR would knock Keflavík out of the finals, but Keflavík made a comeback just in time.

“We decided after the second game with ÍR that we were going to stick together and play like men and not like girls,” said Magnús Thór Gunnarsson, captain of Keflavík.
