Kaupthing among the world’s 800 largest companies

Icelandic investment bank Kaupthing is no. 795 on a list compiled by the international trade magazine Forbes of the 1,000 largest companies in the world, and is the first Icelandic company to make it to that list.

According to Forbes, Kaupthing is larger than some world-known companies, like the international coffee shop chain Starbucks (no. 806), sports product manufacturer Adidas (no. 896) and Danish brewery Carlsberg (no. 920). Fréttabladid reports.

Four Icelandic financial companies are among the 2,000 largest companies in the world; investment bank Landsbanki (no. 1,151), investment bank Glitnir (no. 1,170) and financial service company Exista (no. 1,532).

Banks dominate the top seats of Forbes’ list; Citigroup, Bank of America and HSBC Holdings are the three largest companies in the world.

Forbes evaluates the size of companies considering their turnover, profits, total assets and market value.
