Katla Gives Pilots Green Light

The Aviation Color Code for Katla volcano, which was changed to yellow last week due to a series of earthquakes, has been changed back to green. That means that the recent series of earthquakes is over and there are no indications an eruption is imminent.

The Icelandic Met Office issues a map for pilots regarding flight over volcanoes in Iceland. Its color code is in accordance with suggestions from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and indicates the state of volcanic areas.

A message from the meteorologist on call states that things have been calm around Katla since Saturday and the series of earthquakes appears to be over. The area continues to be monitored by the Met Office.
