British-Georgian singer-songwriter Katie Melua visited Iceland last weekend to promote her latest studio album Pictures, which was released last month. The singer appeared in interviews on TV stations RÚV and Channel 2 and played a few songs.
Melua has enjoyed considerable popularity in recent years and last year she was the top female record seller in Europe, according to 24 stundir.
“Everyone keeps asking me why Iceland, it’s such a small market? But truth be told, it doesn’t matter to me,” Melua said. “I have a small publisher and since I had time I wanted to visit the country again because I liked it so much when I came here last February for a concert.”
The singer did not perform any concerts during this stay. “I won’t have time now, I’m afraid, but I’ll definitely return,” Melua said. “I really want to try rafting in Iceland and I’d like to see more of the country.”
Melua traveled from Iceland to South Africa, where she will spend three days, and will then head to Zürich, Switzerland.
