Karpov and Polgar Join Reykjavík Chess Club

Ten foreign grandmasters, among them Anatoly Karpov and Judit Polgar, have joined the ranks of the Reykjavík Chess Club (TR). Many of them are on a list of the world’s strongest chess players today.

In addition to Karpov and Polgar, the new members are Vasily Papin, Vugar Gashimov, Emil Sutovsky, Gata Kamsky, Juri Kryvoruchko, Martyn Kravtsiv, Mikhailo Oleksienko, Jan Smeets, Jakob Vang Glud and Helgi Dam Ziska, Morgunbladid reports.

Also, Icelandic chess player Karl Thorsteins has rejoined his old club. Sigurlaug R. Fridthjófsdóttir, TR’s chairperson, said this is a great addition to the club, which soon celebrates its 111th anniversary.
