Opposition MPs with a seat on parliament’s industrial committee have requested that the committee chairman call for former Minister of Commerce and Industry Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir to attend a committee meeting tomorrow. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a recent report on the safety of the Kárahnjúkavirkjun dam project, east Iceland, which was stamped confidential and not revealed to parliament before legislation authorizing the go-ahead of the dam project was passed.
The committee members wish for Sverrisdóttir to explain her remarks that parliament had been given all important information concerning the Kárahnjúkavirkjun dam project at that time. Grímur Björnsson, author of the aforementioned report, has been summoned to a meeting of the committee at 2.30pm today, along with representatives from The National Energy Authority, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Sveinbjörn Björnsson, a specialist with a seat on the project’s supervisory committee.
