Junk pours through the Icelandic mail-chute like never before

The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reports that about 12 kilograms of junk mail and other “unrequested papers” were delivered to the average Icelandic home in January.

This figure does not include the subscription of daily newspaper Morgunbladid, which adds up to an additional 8 kilograms.

A month’s worth of daily Fréttabladid is 7 kilograms and a month’s worth of the daily Bladid is 3 kilograms.

A similar survey was done in 2003, when the average Icelandic home received 19 kilograms of junk mail over the entire year. The daily Fréttabladid was not included in the figure for 2003.
