On June 17th, the Congress of Manitoba, Canada, agreed that from now on, that day would be dedicated to Icelandic politician and leader in Iceland’s fight for independence Jón Sigurdsson, reports mbl.is.
Former Minister of Education and now Manitoba’s Minister of Commerce Peter Bjornsson was the carrier of the proposal.
According to Bjornsson, Jón Sigurdsson’s actions are an example to all MPs, no matter where in the world; a demonstration of what can be accomplished with determination and decisiveness. Sigurdsson also always emphasized the importance of the written and spoken word.
