Juice Bottles A Cause For Eye Surgery

A number of Flórídana plastic juice bottles were the cause of eye injuries in late August when the bottle-caps started bursting open. Ölgerðin, the manufacturer of Flórídana, initially explained that the bottles needed to be stored in cold at all times. Later it was revealed that the bottle-caps themselves were to blame, causing a revamp in their design.

According to Fréttablaðið, at least two victims of the bottle-caps will need lens replacement surgery. Oddný Sigrún Magnúsdóttir explained that her teenage daughter, Þóra Björg Ingimundardóttir, currently has 60% vision in the injured eye, months after the incident. This had a great impact on her school attendance, as well as being an overall expensive ordeal for everyone involved.

The other victim, thirty-year-old Svavar Þór Georgsson has already undergone surgery, though his vision is still impaired. Black spots are visible on his retina, preventing him from enjoying his favourite past-times of sharpshooting and hunting.
