Journalists Laid Off at National Broadcaster

Up to 20 employees at the national broadcaster RÚV were laid off yesterday. Among those who lost their jobs were three journalists who worked at news magazine Kastljós and one journalist from the news analysis program Fréttaaukinn.

Director of RÚV, Páll Magnússon, will announce the cutbacks and the accompanying layoffs at a meeting with his employees today. RÚV, which is partly state funded, must make an ISK 270 million (USD 2.1 million, EUR 1.5 million) cutback this year, Morgunbladid reports.

Sigmar Gudmundsson, Kastljós’s director, said he was deeply saddened by losing these good people. “But Kastljós will continue,” he promised.
