Jónsi to Write Song for Final “How to Train Your Dragon” Film

Sigur Rós front man Jónsi will compose the song for the end credits of the forthcoming and final installment of the popular animated “How to Train Your Dragon” film trilogy, RÚV reports. Jónsi also composed the end song for the previous two installments of the series.

Jónsi composed the end song for the first film “…on the plane on the way back to Reykjavík from London on his phone and then he finished it in his kitchen,” director Dean DeBlois recalled in a recent interview. “Before the studio could even hem and haw and ask ‘Who is Sigur Rós and who’s Jónsi?,’ the song was done.” DeBlois said that the song “…kind of became a part of the voice of the film and the music, so it was a no-brainer for the second film and now we’re going to repeat it for the last film of the trilogy.”

DeBlois also directed the 2007 music documentary Heima, which follows Sigur Rós on their 2006 tour around Iceland.

The interview with DeBlois was included in a YouTube video published by Sigur Rós to commemorate their recent tour, which involved “123 shows over 19 months in 37 countries on 5 continents.” The interview starts at 23:44.
