Jón Margeir Wins Gold in 200m Freestyle at Paralympics

Jón Margeir Sverrisson finished first in the men’s 200-meter freestyle event in the S14 category at the Paralympics in London yesterday. Jón Margeir swam the event in 1:59.62, setting a new world record and securing the gold medal, ruv.is reports.

In other sports news, Júlían J.K. Jóhannsson from sports club Ármann won in the deadlift 120+ kg category at the Junior World Powerlifting Championships in Poland yesterday. Júlían lifted 315 kg to come away with the world title.

He also lifted 320 kg in the squat and 245 kg in the bench press, which is a new Icelandic record. At just 19 years old, Júlían was the youngest competitor at the championships.
