Jökulsárlón, Iceland’s famous iceberg lagoon, has been named one of the world’s top must-see sights of all time in Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travelist, just published. In this first-of-its-kind list, Lonely Planet’s staff and writers have ranked the 500 best places to see on the planet.
Jökulsárlón, one of Iceland’s many natural wonders, ranks 60th on the list, making it one of the world’s highest-ranking sights. It beats globally recognized sights such as Vietnam’s picturesque Halong Bay, Mexico’s Chichén Itzá and Niagara Falls in Canada. The Travelist highlights places the experts at Lonely Planet believe every traveler must experience.
Jökulsárlón is not the only Icelandic landmark to make the list. According to Lonely Planet, whose staff has been guiding travelers on the road since 1973, eight of the world’s all-time best places to visit are in Iceland. These are: Jökulsárlón (#60), The Blue Lagoon (#93), Vatnajökull National Park (#145), Gullfoss (#176), Borgarfjörður Eystri and Seyðisfjörður (#211), Silfra (#250), Snæfellsnes (#351), and Geysir (#359).
At the top of the list are the Temples of Angkor in Cambodia.
