Joint Call for Tenders on Pharmaceuticals a Success

A recent joint call for tenders on pharmaceuticals undertaken by nine Icelandic health institutions, worth a total of ISK 840 million (USD 12.7 million, EUR 8.8 million), resulted in an almost 30.5 percent, or ISK 260 million (USD 3.9 million, EUR 2.7 million), discount off the wholesale price, according to the Ministry of Health.

Minister of Health Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson organized the call for tenders and has now formally requested that Icelandic health institutions seek cooperation with comparable institutions in the other Nordic countries regarding joint calls for tenders in the Nordic pharmaceuticals market, Morgunbladid reports.

The health institutes that cooperated in the joint call for tenders include hospitals in Akureyri, Ísafjördur, Selfoss and Húsavík.
