John Lennon Time Capsules at Reykjavík Library

To commemorate what would have been late Beatle and pacifist John Lennon’s 70th birthday on October 9, four time capsules in his honor were sealed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. One of these capsules will be stored at the Reykjavík City Library.

The capsules contain all of Lennon’s solo albums, new writings about him, recently discovered album cover art he made and material fans have contributed.

Apart from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland, Ohio, USA and Reykjavík City Library, the capsules will be stored at the John Moores University’s School of Art and Design in Liverpool, the UK and at a location in Japan.

When the capsule has been delivered to the library later this autumn, the event will be celebrated with an eventful program. Until then, Lennon’s fans can send the library music and contemplations related to him.

The material will be collected, sealed and opened at the same time as the time capsule, when 100 years have passed since Lennon’s birth in 2040.

The material can be sent to Borgarbókasafn, Tryggvagötu 15, 101 Reykjavík or via email to Sigurdur J. Vigfússon: [email protected]. Click here to read more about the time capsules.
