John Lennon Memorial Concert in Iceland

A memorial concert for John Lennon will take place in Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús on his birthday, October 9, on the occasion of the lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower, an artwork by Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono on Videy Island.

In honor of the lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower, Ono offers the general public free ferry crossings to Videy on October 9, 10 and 11.

A program dedicated to the lighting of the tower takes place in Hafnarhús on October 9, from 8 pm onwards, ending with the memorial concert, which begins at 10 pm.

Performers include the elite of the Icelandic music scene, both legends like Björgvin Halldórsson and Egill Ólafsson and young rockers like Eythór Ingi and Haukur Heidar Hauksson of Dikta.

The concert, which is organized by Óttar Felix Hauksson, was first held with a slightly different lineup in Lennon’s honor on September 9.

The Hafnarhús program includes a live broadcast from the lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower, a screening of Bed In, a documentary by Ono and Lennon, and excerpts from Ari Alexander Ergir’s upcoming documentary Imagine Peace Tower.

Ono has invited the Icelandic Red Cross to organize a charitable collection at these events. The donations will be used to support families who are struggling financially because of the current economic crisis in Iceland.
