John Grant Concert in Reykjavík Tonight

John Grant, whose album Queen of Denmark was chosen Best Album of 2010 by the British music magazine Mojo, is giving a concert tonight at Austurbær in Reykjavík. And as luck would have it, there are still tickets available, at least at the time of writing.

John Grant came to Iceland for Iceland Airwaves 2011 and immediately liked the place. He has been recording in Iceland in recent weeks and gives the concert tonight. Grant is a pianist and his songs can be described as ballades. The song “I Want to go to Marz” was released as a single and is very popular.

He recently launched his career as a solo artist, having previously been lead vocalist with The Czars, an alternative rock band he formed in 1994 in Denver with Chris Pearson. Following the band’s breakup, Grant took some time off from making music, and returned to recording and performing in 2010 with his debut solo album Queen of Denmark. on April 6, 2010. It was recorded in collaboration with the American folk rock band Midlake, and released on Bella Union

Several of his songs from his album Queen of Denmark are used in the 2011 movie Weekend.
