Former king of pop Michael Jackson has acquired the publishing rights of some of Björk’s songs. Jackson has also come into possession of the publishing rights for songs by Eminem, Christina Aguilera and Shakira.
Jackson owns a share in Sony/ATV Music Publishing, which recently took over Famous Music LCC from Viacom. Famous Music had the publishing rights to about 125,000 songs, including a few songs written by Björk, Fréttabladid reports.
Ásmundur Jónsson, the general manager of the record label Smekkleysa, which distributes Björk’s albums in Iceland, said he does not know which of her songs Jackson has acquired.
“This is a major event for Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The [Famous Music] song collection contains everything from timeless masterpieces to more recent hits. I’m very pleased to have added Famous Music to Sony/ATV,” Jackson said in a statement to the media.
