IT Giants Still Interested in Data Center in Iceland

International IT giants, such as Microsoft, Google and Yahoo, are still interested in operating data centers in Iceland, according to Titan Global, an Icelandic real estate development company involved in the data center business.

Jónas Tryggvason, who owns Titan Global with Arnthór Halldórsson and other investors, told Morgunbladid that his company is currently negotiating with large IT companies on building data centers in Iceland.

Two lots have been earmarked and an agreement on energy harnessing and transport of electricity is being worked on, Tryggvason said. He hopes that a data center can be constructed next years.

Other Icelandic companies are also involved in the data center business. The investment agreement between the Icelandic state and Verne Holdings is almost ready after Verne Holdings’ plans for a data center were delayed as reported earlier this year.
