It‘s No Joke! Jón Gnarr Will Become Mayor of Reykjavík

In a joint news conference held on top of Aesufell 4 an apartment building in one of the suburbs of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson, vice chairman of the Social Democrats and Jón Gnarr, comedian and victor of the municipal elections in Reykjavík announced that Jón Gnarr of the Best Party will become mayor of Reykjavík for the next four years.

Dagur B. Eggertsson, whose party is leading the coalition government in Iceland, will become chairman of the City chamber. The Social Democrats suffered heavy losses in the elections while the Best Party won six members of the municipal council out of 15 and 34 percent of the vote, thus becoming the biggest party.

Jón Gnarr is will known in Iceland for his role in various comedy shows in Icelandic, the Day Shift, the Night Shift and the Prison Shift. Recently he starred in the movie Bjarnfreðarson, based on the same series.
